The Story of Gry & Sif
25 years of felted magic
What began as a short stay in Nepal developed into a life-changing experience – and the start of a woolen universe that today spreads joy in homes around the world.
In 2026 we will celebrate 25 years of felt magic. A journey that has had its ups and downs, and which began with our very first small creations. Since then, the universe has grown into a colorful community filled with forever flowers, Easter bunnies, Christmas mice and small works of art that transform into memories and everyday magic.
Each little character is designed in Denmark and handmade with love in the heart of Nepal – full of warmth, thoughtful details and a quirky personality.
It all started with two sisters
In 2001, in the middle of a backpacking trip through Asia, Gry and her sister Sif fell in love with Nepal's culture and nature. With the snow-capped peaks of the Himalayas as a backdrop and the country's warm people as inspiration, the two sisters spent 14 days trekking. Afterwards, they volunteered at a local school, where they helped develop ideas to support the school's finances.
During their stay in Nepal, they were enchanted by the skills of the local craftsmen and the traditional felting technique where raw wool is transformed into small works of art.
Gry asked herself: Why not combine the best of Nepal's proud craftsmanship with Scandinavian design?
And that was the idea behind Gry & Sif.
With suitcases full of samples, Gry returned to Denmark and set out to make her dream a reality. The first products - felt bags - were presented to stores in Copenhagen and the response was overwhelmingly positive. This marked the beginning of Gry & Sif as an established business in 2001.

2001
Gry & Sif was founded
A backpacking trip to Nepal. Two sisters and a dream. Gry and Sif discover Nepal and the art of felting. Shortly after the trip, Gry & Sif is founded.
2002
Felt bags & purses were introduced
Gry & Sif's felted treasures found their way onto their very first shop shelves - and into homes in Denmark.
2006
Children's universe introduced
Gry & Sif introduced a playful children's universe filled with felted bags, coin purses and hair accessories.
2007
First seasonal products
The first seasonal products were launched - charming decorations and ornaments. At the time we were 100 Nepali artisans and 2 people working in Denmark.
2009
Our First Fair trade certificate
Fair Trade officially beomes part of our core values.
2016
New handcrafted expressions
Gry & Sif explored beyond wool, experimenting with new handcrafted expressions in paper, ceramics, furniture and soaps - expanding the boundaries of the felted universe.

Back to Our Core: Only Felt from now on
The first flowers grew into our universe.
2020
a little icon is born
The first mouse joined the Gry & Sif universe - a tiny felted friend with charm and character, soon becoming one of our most beloved figures.
2022
meet the first easter bunny
Soon after, our little bees came to life.
2023
empowering hands, enriching details
Together with our artisans in Nepal, we have focused on new techniques and finer craftmanship - enhancing every detail while creating new opportunities thorugh Fair Trade skill development.
New little faces also joined our mouse family.
2024
giving back with heart
In 2024 we proudly launched a shcolarship program for 19 children of our artisans - opening doors to education and brighter future. At the same time, we donated water tanks to remote Nepali villages, bringing clean water and lasting change.
2025
Our Heart icon was born
Symbolising two mice in a heart.
2026
25 years of handmade magic
From a dream in Nepal to a Fair Trade certified brand. We celebrate 25 years of handmade magiv with two special anniversary mice - Gry & Sif - a tribute to where it all began.
The Gry & Sif team grew in Denmark and Nepal - 22 people in Denmark and 1500 artisans feltiing in Nepal.
